Good Morning! While out shipping with my son last week, we came across your Moth Girl puzzle. It absolutely stopped me in my tracks! Simply gorgeous!! Do you happen to still have the original painting for sale? Wishing you a wonderful day! Paula

Hi! Sorry for the late reply here but unfortunately the original isn’t for sale! I do have them as prints on my shop ❤️

Hi Yas! Just a note to say I got a copy of "The Very Oldest Pear Tree" today and the artwork is terrific! (The whole thing is terrific!) Way to go! Bill Endicott (11th generation descendant of the guy who planted the tree).

Woah no way?? That is super cool!! I’m so happy you love the book and I’m very honored you took the time to send me a message here.

Hi Yas! First of all, I'm a fan of your art (I follow you on IG under @ongluism) and i think you art is really beautiful. I also like the way you draw people. So, I wanted to ask you, how did you arrive at your current art style (particularly of people)? I mean, did you start out by drawing realistically at first? Like for me, I know how to draw realistic faces and poses, etc., but i dont really know how to go from realism to an art style like yours. Sorry about the long message...Thank you!!!

Hey love! Thank you for sending me an anon, I actually really enjoy getting these :D  And thank you so much omg. Nah, I never really mastered how to draw people realistically. Although I guess we all get into realism at some point just for kicks? But I think my style just kept evolving as I expose myself to other styles I like. It all becomes an amalgamation of the different styles I’m into.

Don’t overthink it too much, let go of the strict proportions you learn in realism and make those limbs gangly! Do crazy noodle poses and see where takes ya!

I’d love to see what you come up with! Hit me up a DM when you do!

Do you teach any classes on illustration?

Seriously considering a patreon for it, what would you like to learn specifically?

Hello Yas, I enjoy your work so much, and have just received a copy of The Very Oldest Pear Tree. Also your work with Galison was so lovely. When will your shop Quill and Fox be "up and running again" ? And also, as a fellow resident of Oregon (Eugene), I wonder did you grow up here?

Hi! Aww i’m so glad you love it!! Thank you, thank you!! Honestly not sure :( I’ve gotten so busy, and also because of the pandemic, it has made it harder for cards to be a viable source of income right now. Much of my income came from brick and mortar shops so i almost luckily transitioned out of it in good time. But it’s still something I want to keep alive, hopefully in the future!

Hello! I picked up my younger sisters copy of 'Evelyn the entomologist and was mesmerized by the illustrations! This may sound odd, but what sort of supplies did you use? Like was it acrylic, watercolor, pencil, or mix? I just got back from spending 11th grade in the philippines so it was cool to see you were from manila! :)

Ahhh thank you! It’s mostly just watercolor and gouache ! And then added some line work with color pencil or maybe some digital touch ups as well!

Love working on gouache that’s a little watered down and not too dense.

Also that’s awesome! Hope you had a great time studying in the Philippines! The experience can be a mixed bag sometimes 😂

I made a coloring page of an alternate illustration of this to anyone who’s into that, esp in these crazy lockdown times. bit.ly/2wS2Kdp

I’d love to see what colors you come up with and share on my instagram @yas.illustration
